Sensory Recovery in Anterolateral Thigh Free Flap

In a recent STEM CELLS Translational Medicine article from the labs of Chengliang Deng and Zairong Wei (Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University, Guizhou, China), Xiao et al. reported the application of nanofat, an autologous product that is prepared mechanically from harvested fat, and nerve growth factor (NGF) as a promising therapeutic approach regarding the sensory recovery of the anterolateral thigh (ALT) free flaps, which are widely used for reconstruction. The authors discovered that nanofat and NGF treatment synergized to significantly stimulate angiogenesis and neurogenesis, thereby providing the rationale for future studies.
