Sensory Nerves in the Stem Cell Niche
Our understanding of the neural regulation of various stem cell niches remains limited, and the elucidation of these complex interactions remains an exciting research goal. A new STEM CELLS Translational Medicine article from the lab of Alexander Birbrair (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil) reviews recent progress in the understanding of the biology of sensory nerve function in stem cell niches. Picoli et al. discuss recent studies that provide evidence of the importance of sensory neurons in the mesenchymal stem cell niche and highlight how this knowledge may have relevance for the treatment of numerous disorders.
