LncRNA-Adi Regulates Adipogenesis

A recent STEM CELLS Translational Medicine study led by Lei Liu (Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China) recently described a novel long noncoding (lnc)RNA (lncRNA‐Adi) highly expressed in adipogenic‐induced adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs). Chen et al. also described how lncRNA‐Adi competitively interacted with miR‐449a to protect CDK6 from degradation, thereby improving CDK6 translation level and activating the pRb‐E2F1 pathway to promote adipogenesis. These findings not only reveal details regarding the function and mechanism of lncRNA‐Adi in regulating adipogenesis but also, more importantly, they could provide a new approach for the identification of therapeutic targets in the battle against metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes.
