KDM6A Epigenetically Mediates Reprogramming to Pluripotency

The efficient reprogramming of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from somatic cells has relevance to the development of effective stem cell therapies. Now, a new STEM CELLS study from the lab of Lei Lei (Harbin Medical University, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China) reports that expression of the H3K27me3 demethylase KDM6A can improve iPSC reprogramming efficiency in a demethylase‐dependent manner. Jiang et al. also establishes that KDM6A‐induced H3K27me3 may alter gene expression profiles and metabolic pattern in mouse embryonic fibroblasts and also highlight critical roles for the PTEN and IL‐6 pathways in improved reprogramming efficiency.
