IRF7-CXCR4 Axis Suppresses Stress Hematopoiesis
A new STEM CELLS article from the lab of Jie Zhou (Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, China) reports interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF7) as dispensable for steady‐state hematopoiesis; however, IRF7 deficiency enhances regeneration of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) under conditions of stress. Additional mechanistic studies by Chen et al. demonstrated that C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR-4) mediates the effects of IRF7 in HSPCs under stress. Overall, the authors suggest that IRF7 silencing may improve hematopoietic recovery after hematopoietic injury or transplantation.
