GPC4 Regulates Neuronal Differentiation of iPSCs

In a recent STEM CELLS Translational Medicine article, researchers led by Rosanna Dono (Aix Marseille University, France) describe GLYPICAN‐4 (GPC4) downregulation as a new and promising approach to promote the efficient generation of ventral midbrain dopaminergic neurons from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) both in vitro and after transplantation in rat brains. Corti et al. note that the reduced in vivo tumorigenesis of iPSCs with downregulated GPC4 levels also suggests the safety of subsequent ventral midbrain dopaminergic neuron transplants.
