CESC-derived Exosomes Inhibit IVDD

Degeneration of the cartilage endplate induces intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), with the apoptosis of nucleus pulposus cells apoptosis representing a crucial exacerbating factor. Researchers led by Yue Zhou, MingHan Liu, and Zhiqiang Tian (Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China) now report that normal cartilage endplate stem cell (CESC)‐derived exosomes inhibit the apoptosis of nucleus pulposus cells and attenuate IVDD by activating the PI3K/AKT/autophagy pathway.
