Adult Tissue-derived Neural Crest-like Stem Cells
Neural crest stem cells are multipotent, easy to isolate from adult tissues, and easy to expand, and a recent concise review from the labs of Pihu Mehrotra and Stelios T. Andreadis (University at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, USA) summarizes the advantages of using these cells for the treatment of demyelinating disorders and spinal cord injury. The authors also describe how this technology can also be used for disease modeling and drug testing, paving the way for personalized therapeutics for neurological disorders.
