Activin A Aids ESC Differentiation into PGCLCs

The robust differentiation of human primordial germ cell‐like cells (PGCLCs) has been hampered by inherent heterogeneity in human embryonic stem cell (ESC) lines. Now, researchers led by Björn Heindryckx (Ghent University Hospital, Belgium) and Susana M. Chuva De Sousa Lopes (Leiden University Medical Centre, The Netherlands) report that ESCs cultured in the presence of activin A possess a robust ability to differentiate into PGCLCs.
