Tcf7l1 Suppresses Liver CSC Self-renewal

A STEM CELLS study from the group of Yuanliang Wang and Cheng Qian (Chongqing University Cancer Hospital, Chongqing, China) recently revealed that Tcf7l1, a key effector of Wnt/ß‐catenin signaling pathway, acts as a tumor suppressor and regulates the self-renewal of liver cancer stem cells (CSCs). Shan et al. also establish that IGF (Insulin-like growth factor) signaling stimulates Tcf7l1 phosphorylation and degradation through MEK/ERK pathway independently of ß‐catenin, providing new insights on how extracellular signals modulate the self‐renewal of liver CSCs.
