Neural Stem Cell Interactions with Drugs

Neurodegenerative disease treatment may include the development of both stem cell- and pharmacology-based approaches; however, we know little about how neural stem cells, for example, and drugs interact. For this reason, researchers led by Marietta Zille (University of Lübeck, Germany) undertook a meta-analysis of data reported in the literature and now report a clear interaction between antidepressants drugs and the proliferative ability of neuronal stem cells. Ikhsan et al. believe that future cell therapeutic approaches and pharmacological interventions must be coordinated to create efficient, safe, and effective therapeutic strategies.
