Challenges for MSCs in the Clinic

The realization that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play tissue supportive functions has prompted an increasing number of studies in a variety of clinical indications, thereby revealing additional challenges. Now, researchers from the laboratory of Massimo Dominici (Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy) aimed to describe the strengths and weaknesses of MSCs to contribute to a better awareness regarding challenges related to MSC therapy. To read all about what should be taken into account in during the development of future MSC therapies, see Mastrolia et al. in STEM CELLS Translational Medicine.
